Included in the box: one dovetail filler (recommend red loctite to set it)
Ranger Point profiled dovetail fillers are specially machined to "flush mount" on round rifle barrels.
These already profiled dovetail fillers hand fit in minutes and save you the 1-2 hours of filing necessary to fit dovetail blanks.
- Machined out of steel and blued or stainless steel
- Flush mounts so as to remove the usual "unsightly bulge"
- Available in two sizes: .850" diameter and .900" diameter (fits most rifle barrels such as Marlin, Henry, Winchester, Savage, Mossberg, etc).
* Please note: these parts are extremely time consuming to make thus why they cost more than the "unsightly bulge" options on the market. Since they're a perfect flush fit, you're also saving all of the time you would have spent sanding, filing and fitting other options.
Test fit the dovetail filler in the barrel cut. In most cases, it will slide in easily, or with gentle tapping. Do not attempt to drift in the blank with a punch, as this will damage the thin side edges. If the filler does not fit, use a file or sandpaper to remove material from the fore/aft sharp edges (not bevels). If removing a few thousands of an inch doesn't get a fit, the bottom of the filler may need to be lapped on fine sandpaper to loosen the overall fit. Cold blue may be used for touching up bare metal. Once a slip fit is achieved, degrease the filler and the dovetail cut, then apply Red Loctite (or similar) generously to help fill voids and prevent rust. Wipe away excess and let set. Apply gun oil after adhesive sets. When the factory rear sight is removed it leaves an unsightly dovetail cut in the barrel. Our profiled blanks fill this dovetail to closely match the diameter of the barrel, rather than having an equally unsightly raised hunk of metal.

This thing is a time saver as well as a perfect fit . It makes the dovetail almost un-noticeable.
Like all the other reviews it ( the .850) fit perfectly on my Ruger 10/22.
Bought this for a Marlin with XS Sights. Knocked out the ugly filler I had installed to replace the OEM rear sight. This part just slide right in as advertised. My rifle required no fitting. Follow the instructions provided and use red loctite. This dovetail filler is very cosmetically appealing. Thanks RRP,
Work great on my Henry 45-70
And looks great
FIT PERFECTLY. ANOTHER EXCELLENT PRODUCT FROM YOU FOLKS.
I purchased the dovetail filler to replace the rear sight on my Marlin 1893 (circa 1896) and it worked great. It was a bit undersized depth not width) but I suspect as it needs to fit multiple rifles and ages of rifle that is just the way it needs to be made. That was not a problemas I tightened it up with a couple dings to the base with a punch. I like that approach better then Loctite red as that stuff is really hard to remove, requiring heat and I wish to be able to change back to the original rear sight from time to time. So it fit the bill and looks good, Thanks, Matt
Using a William's FP rear sight, I no longer need the factory sight but I hate the unfinished look of an empty dovetail slot. Other companies make fillers that just look like blocks of metal stuck to the top of the barrel. This one is by far more attractive and easy to install. 2 drops of red loctite and it slides right in and stays put. Bluing matches my barrel perfectly and gives the rifle a very clean look. 5 stars all the way.
A perfect fit, no adjustments needed at all. Checked the fit, degreased the part and dovetail, painted it with a little red Loctite and done. Looks far better than the old style fillers with the large flat on top of them. Another great offering from Ranger Point.
When I bought my Marlin 336 XLR 30/30 I didn’t like the ugly carbon steel dovetail on my beautiful stainless steel barrel so I took to the internet to find a quality dovetail SS dovetail blank. I found the one by Ranger Point. It was wonderful. It literally just slid right in the groove. It didn’t need any filing, sanding, and I didn’t need to do any tapping at all. I just put some red locktite on it, slid it in place using only my finger and I was done.
