At Ranger Point, we have done many, many action jobs on Marlin leverguns. One of the first things customers ask us to address is the overly stiff, and often sharp edged, factory loading gate spring. Everyone knows the factory loading gate can make loading ammo into the rifle a difficult and unpleasant task.
The RPP Flyweight Loading Gate greatly reduces the effort required to stoke your Marlin. It's a masterfully tuned, competition grade part right out of the gate.
Starting with a massive reduction in spring weight, the RPP gate requires only about 1.5 lbs. of force to open fully, while the factory loading gate can require in excess of 5 lbs.
Next, we redesigned the loading gate to offer substantially more clearance for cartridges, further reducing load effort. This is a significant benefit when loading fat, straight wall ammo like the Marlin 444. In fact, during testing we discovered that we could load a .444 dummy through the gate of a typical Marlin 336 .30-30, without benefit of the Model 444's magazine tube clearance bulge. That's first class leg room!
Finally, we paid very careful attention to the inside "feed lip" area of the gate, optimizing geometry to ease gate opening against an on-deck round, and offer smooth feeding, with perfect case head control. With every gate precisely CNC machined from solid bar stock and hand polished, consistent results are assured.
Material is 7057-T6 aluminum, the strongest grade available. Engineered for highly stressed air frames, 7057 has extraordinary fatigue strength for thousands of flex cycles without failure. When anodized, it has a surface hardness exceeding hardened steel, for excellent wear properties.

A couple of good screwdrivers is all that's needed.
The gun will need to be partially disassembled - just go slo, and remember that each screw needs to return to it's original home, so get a piece of cardboard box, draw an approximation of the receiver on it, and poke a hole in your drawing where each screw can rest until reassembly.
1) Clear the rifle & ensure the chamber and magazine are EMPTY.
2) Unscrew/remove the tang screw from the upper/rear receiver tang, and pull off the buttstock to the rear.
3) Partially open bolt/lever, remove lever pivot screw and slide lever out of the bottom of the receiver (no need to remove bolt)
4) De-cock the hammer with the safety disengaged. Push forward on the hammer spring bridge and pull or push out one side of its groove. This will free the hammer spring
5) Remove hammer pivot screw, bottom trigger plate screw and side support screws to free the trigger plate from the receiver.
6) Remove the trigger plate / lower tang from the bottom of the receiver (some gentle prying may be needed).
7) Pull the locking lug out of the bottom of the receiver and swing the carrier out of the receiver (no need to remove the carrier pivot screw)
8) Unscrew the loading gate spring (1” behind he loading gate opening) and install the new gate and screw it in
Reassemble in reverse order.

So, I think I must have a newer design of feed ramp on my Marlin (It is new) and the ramp is a bit stiff, but it was getting easier, or I was getting used to it. The Ranger Gate needed a tiny bit of fitting as it was snagging on the receiver (Marlin machine burrs), and is lighter and easier to use, but not as much as I thought it would be. I am keeping it in there but I think it needs a bit of break in, especially on the inside face where it needs to run across the loaded round rim. It's a bit sticky there.
I like the one I installed on my 1895 45/70 so much I got one for the 1894 in 44 Mag. Same good quality, flawless function, and good looks! But where I used the video to install the first one, I put this one in by memory in half the time! Great update! Really pretty simple! Very pleased-would recommend-
Excellent! Easy and quick installation, the online video lays it all out, and the only problem I had was getting the buttstock off because Marlin fitted it so well! Works just as advertised, and the unloading feature is great! Like it so much I have one coming for an 1894 model in 44 Mag-
I ordered one for my 1895 SBL. Tremendous difference with the new gate compared to the old. The OEM gate was a finger pinching, fingernail grabbing son of a gun. I truly hated it. The RPP fit perfectly, and now loading the rifle is a pleasure. The color of the stainless gate is slightly different than the receiver, but the functionality greatly outweighs color. I also had been waiting for the gate release to purchase the Quick Takedown Screw for my lever. The screw is beautiful, fit perfectly and matched the color of the receiver.
I ordered both parts the day the gate release was announced, and was shocked to have it at my door 3 days later. I am very impressed with RPP.
Totally worth the money. Got one for a 1895CB. Shipped on Tuesday after Memorial Day and received on Friday, only because I live in the boondocks or would have been a day sooner. Now. I can't unload it as fast as Navajo on the video but it is easy and no pinched fingers! Great job!
I installed my new loading gate in my 336SS. Installation was a snap and the new gate works great. The new loading gate is now also installed and working in my 1953 336SC. I ended up filing the boss to 0.0740 to provide the clearance for the carrier to slide by the boss on the gate. Two RPP Fly Weight Loading Gates installed and looking pretty:
Got it..,it's installed. And it absolutely makes it much easier to load bullets into the tube. An Excellent option for your rifle.
My order came to VT yesterday. I got a black "blue" and a gold or brass colored. I installed the gold one as I had installed a gold trigger in my 450M. Great products works as described and will be ordering in bulk for my go to shooter 1894 and 1895's. Thanks Adam nice to unload through the gate.
This gate works awesome. As navajo stated above, you really have to try it to appreciate it. I tested it in my 444 and it was effortless loading which is a welcome change with the 7 round extended mag tube. I then put it in my 2006 336 MXLR 30-30 and again, what a difference! If you can describe feeding a side gate mag tube gun as "butter smooth" then this is it. Doesn't even seem like the same rifle anymore. When first installed, I loaded and cycled it 20 times repetitively, that's 100 rds, and my thumb didn't feel any different stuffing #100 in then it did the first round. I left it in the MXLR because I'm really digging the two tone look as well. I'll be upgrading most of the "fleet" with more of these.
What a difference in loading! Butter smooth and effortless compared to the OEM gate. No more sore thumb or gouged thumb nail!
These are well worth the price. Smooth as glass and saves the hassle of modifying an original. In all honesty, an original gate can never be made to be this slick. The part I love about these, is that with a simple press-in on the new gate, you can quickly and almost effortlessly unload cartridges from there. See the video.
